The Twin Terrors of Drug Abuse LRD pg 3

Why do you think the Singapore government imposes a serious penalty on drug traffickers?

Drug traffickers are people who smuggle drugs illegally into a country. There are various types of drugs that are commonly abused. For example, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and opium.

I think the government imposes such harsh penalties as drug traffickers ruin people's lives. The government is sending a strong message against drug trafficking as it has severe harmful consequences on the person who takes drugs as well as his family and community.

Every person who takes drugs will soon get addicted to it and they will crave for more. Coming out of the addiction is not really that easy as they would need to go through torturous witdrawal symptoms. Moreover, since these drugs are expensive, they would usually use up their savings fast and when that source of money dries up, they would need to borrow money from family members or even resort to stealing, which is an offence.

Moreover, drugs have harmful side effects on health. These includes dizziness, vomitting, hallucination. Some of the drugs make us feel 'good', but it is actually killing our brain cells. Do you know that overdoses can lead to seizures and even death?

So, to me, the harsher the penalty, the better it is, for Singapore and us!

I think the singapore goverment thinks that drugs are for sugery use only not foe selfusage.I think people are very foolish take drugs even though they know they will get sued or even heavy punishments.I think people SHOULD NOT take drugs just because they are stressed or not feeling good.Exercises can help people who are stressed.I strongly disagree people to take drugs.I also think that the goverment is doing a good job imposing a heavy penalty.

i think that Singapore government imposs a serious penalty on drug traffickers because the government does not ant the country to be full of people wich are drug addicts to go round mad(crazy) and also reduce the number of people getting caught or fined by the policemen or woman inevery year. The governments want drug traffikers to stop what they must do and make the amount get lesser and leser every year.( From 6 Compassion)

I think Singapore's govenment imposes a serious penalty on drug traffickers as drugs are dangerous and can result to death due to heart faliure. Drugs make you feel high and you might not know what you are doing. And when you start eating them, you will get addicted and continue eating more and more. After you throw up, your heart may beat slowly or stop. Then thats when death takes place. Some people take drugs because they are feeling down. Some take drugs because their drunk. If the drug trafficker are caught, he will be sentenced to life imprisonment or a death sentence. So thats the reason why the government imposes a serious penalty on drug traffickers

Government should impose a serious penalty on drug traffickers as they sell illegal things in singapore. It is dangerous to eat them as you will get addicted to it, drugs make you feel 'high' and you might not be able to recall what happen. Drugs are mostly eaten in nightclubs, teenages ages 14-17 are usually those who takes/sell them. If you are addicted to drugs, its highly recommended to go to a drug rehab center where you will get used to control your addiction to it. Some people in the rehab center tend to get a bit crazy and some might want to take the drugs so badly that they chew up their pillows ment for them to put their head on. If you take too much drugs at one time, most likely your heart would fail and die immediatly. If you have taken drugs you will be vomiting alot of times and you will get dizzy. Drugs comes in many different colour and shapes, the common drugs are Ice or Ecstasy. When you are alone in a restraunt or a cafe and you ordered a drink, then you needed to go to the toilet, so after you go and come back, do not drink the beverage anymore as people may have added drugs in it, same applies to food, do not leave your food and come back to eat, it is very risky. So it is recommended to never EVER try to take drugs or sniff glue or anything illegal. I wish everyone a joyous and sucsessful new year.

There is alot of people bringing illegal drugs to Singapore. Some of them were so cruel, they even operated someone and put packs of drug in them, when they reach Singapore they operate the person again to take the drugs out. They want to make big money by selling drugs, but what's the point of taking drugs? All they do is make your body unhealthy, will feel uncomfortable when not having drugs and will end up in jail. There are actually alot of things that contain drugs like medicines, alcohol, cigarette and nail polish.drugs are marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine, LSD, crystal meth, and heroin. So everyone do not take drug or smoke it will harm your harm your body and will make you go to jail

kenneth ng (6 compassion) said...

It depends how many drugs you are dealing with, what kind of drugs they are, whether their illegal and who you are selling them to but most of the time I think it's jail for at least 5 years Wasting time and throwing people in jail. It's another failed attempt at prohibition.
Drugs are usually distinguished from endogenous biochemical by being introduced from outside the organism.] For example, insulin is a hormone that is synthesized in the body; it is called a hormone when it is synthesized by the pancreas inside the body, but if it is introduced into the body from outside, it is called a drug. Many natural substances, such as beers, wines, and psychoactive mushrooms, blur the line between food and recreational drugs, as when ingested they affect the functioning of both mind and body (are actually produced by the human body in trace amounts

Drugs can kill and be very harmful. If you get addicted to it, it would be very difficult to stop.Drugs can be harmful in many ways: drugs can damage the brain, dull your senses, alter your senses of alertness, etc.
Sniffing glue is also taking drugs.Drugs can also cause you to be stress.
The Singapore Goverment does not want youngsters like us to take in drugs because it can cause us stress and we cannot concentrate on our studies.

Drugs does not serve any goodness to us and can harm other people without knowing what is going to happen."I heard that death sentences have continued to be mandatorily imposed in Singapore, mostly for drug-related offences and mainly against foreign nationals" My dad said.
"Goverment does not want the people to gt addicted to it," My mum said "drugs equals to voilence resulted to death." I strongly disagree that people should take drugs but unless it is the doctors prescribed drugs. There are also other ways to relieve stress like excercise, watching TV and go out for a walk.Drugs can cause many people to die,for example, somebody took drugs and end up killing someone that he or she hates.
So don't take drugs if you know whats good for you.

Hi everyone
I think that more people in singapore are buying illegal drugs as drugs causes people having health problem.Polices tries to stop drug dealers which sells illegal drugs to people,so that no one would take drugs and have health problem.I think that illegal drugs are getting much more poweful and addctive as more people are addicted.Drug dealers distribute dangerous sustances like "Ice" and heroin and greater quantities were seized last year,2011 more than previous year,2010 I think that Singapore goverment who gives death sentence penalty to people who sell drugs or take drugs so that other people selling drugs and taking drugs would not dare to take or sell drugs anymore or else they will get a death sentence penalty.

But the Singapore law does not this not take this lightly, the consequence for drug trafficking is hanging. Most of the drugs are addictive and powerful, one of the drugs is methamphetamine or so called "ice". The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has step up on drug trafficking. Most of the penalty will be death because the law does not take it lightly. But if the trafficker is a minor the law will be lighten.

Drugs is very harmful. Some drugs, however are usefu. They are used by doctors to make the patients 'sleeop" before the operation. They are put to "sleep" so that they will not feel the pain during the operation. Some people in the olden days take opium and nowaday people take drugs. These drugs are harmful and will usually get addicted to it. They will not be able to quit the habit and they will do almost anything to get the drugs. Some of them will smuggle drugs into Singapore. More and more people get addicted to it. When adult get addicted it wil affect his family and when teenagers get addicted they will cause problem to our society. In view of this problem, our Singapore goverment have to impose heavy penalties on drug traffickers because drugs is banned in Singapore.

I think the Singapore government imposes a serious penalty on drug traffickers because they strongly disencourage people to take drugs. Drugs are dangerous when used in the wrong hands as it may cause one's health to deteriorate and if taken too much will lead to death. Drugs can also cause people to commit some ridiculous acts such as walking on the edge of the building, laughing uncontrollably and walking on the road without knowing.I think people should start using drugs appropriately. For example, using it to cure patients in hospitals. In my opinion of using drugs, doctors are the ones who have the rights to use it as they have to save lives during surgeries. They made the patients 'sleep' before performing surgeries on them so that the patients will not feel the pain so much.I think that this is appropriate as they are putting drugs to good use,not like those who are putting themselves in danger.

There are two types of drugs, harmful and useful.Useful drugs are types of medicine that are used to curing people who are infected with disease or sick. There are also useful drugs that are used in surgery. The most famous one was the sleeping pills. These drugs put people to sleep so that they would not be shock, disgusted or feel the pain. The sleeping pills can lay people in deep sleep till they can't wake up to eat food or to drink water.Soon, harmful drugs were created to reduce stress, this idea was gave to the British to create cigarettes for making money.Once you are addicted to harmful drugs you can't stop even if you want to can conclude that cigarettes are a type of drugs as it reduce stress and and can kill as tar from the cigarettes filled up the lungs. This prevent you from breathing and the next thing that happen is that you passed away. The Singapore government wanted to prevent this as they think that it is harmful to our body although it cures a problem. Some people do secret meeting for sale of drugs. They are known as drugs dealers.Police and enforcers are now tracking down drug dealers to stop this problem so that the amount of people taking drugs to decrease. There are also programs to solve the problem

I think Singapore government imposes a serious penalty as there have been many people taking drugs. Many people took the drugs methamphetamine and heroin last year.90 per cent of the drug abusers were arrested for taking methamphetamine and heroin last year. The government imposes a serious penalty as a Singaporean was suspected of trafficking drugs at the Woodlands checkpoint in a green Singapore-registered car.The person arrested was a 49-year old Singaporean. The government found out that the Singaporean had about 1 kg and worth more than $262,000 of drugs in the front console of his car.

Once a person starts taking drugs, the person can easily get addicted to it. There is a method to get rid of a persons addiction. This method is called the ''Cold Turkey Method.'' It may get rid of your addiction but you would have to through a lot of pain. Some secondary school pupils take drugs. We must always say''NO'' to drugs.. In Singapore taking drugs or selling drugs can lead the person to the ''Death Penalty.'' We must never sell drugs. It is important that our body is healthy and we must never take drugs. I think drugs are bad as it makes people addicted to it because it is opium . The British brought opium to singapore to sell to the collies who worked very hard so when the coolies take opium they became addicted to opium and they will keep buying it. So the British made a lot of money because they sold opium to chinese coolies . Drugs are also good because they allow the patient to sleep during operations . They will just feel nothing . Drug traffickers are not allowed because drugs makes people addicted too so drugs should not be taken by anyone .

By doing do, they hop people will want to avoid this penalty by stopping drug trafficking.

I think that the Singapore Government should impose a serious penalty on drug traffickers because if they just operate someone and put those packs of drugs in their body, the drugs may harm them or even kill them. To let those traffickers to understand how dangerous is it to store drugs into someone else's body, the government should already give them a serious penalty. Due to the drugs the brought into Singapore, I think that the Singapore Government should stop this by setting the law, once caught maybe just be jailed for 3 years. Drugs can make people fall into a very high mode where they can easily do wrong things. Like cigrattes, they contain some kind of drug that make people keep on having a stick after another, so to prevent this things to happen, i think that the drug traffickers have to be imposed by a serious penalty so they could learn a lesson.

The punishment for drug trafficking is serious because the country doesn't encourage consuming drugs, abuse of drugs nor do they encourage drug tafficking. And the serious penalty will allow them to realise that the penalty for drug trafficking will be very serious and hopefully they will stop. It might also be able to warn other drug traffickers to stop what they're doing now even if they aren't caught, lest they really do.It can,at the same time, also warn others about the consequences of drug trafficking and allow them to think about what they are going to do about the trafficking if they are in it and will stop.

I think Singapore imposing a serious penalty on drug traffickers is very important. If there is a small penalty, like a $50 fine, people will be smuggling drugs into Singapore all the time. If the smuggler earns $3000 for smugggling drugs, they only lose $50 to the government. If we have a small penalty, Singapore would be a crime city! With a serious penalty, smugglers would not dare to come to Singapore. Drugs are very harmful. Maybe, some people think the penalty for drug traffickers is very serious, but it is to protect us from ever trying drugs. Overall, i think the penalty for smugglers is just fine. If we do not have this penalty, Singapore would not have come this far.

Drugs can kill and can be harmful to people.I think the Singapore government impose a serious penalty to drug traffickers because it is very hard to change and stop taking drugs once you get addicted to it.Sometimes, the consequences of penalty can be hanging or maybe death. There are several reasons why drugs can be harmful:Physically, drugs can kill you. They can cause permanent damage to major organs, and many cancers, illnesses and cardiac and circulatory problems. A person can endure a long and painful death from a terminal situation, or even die suddenly from an overdose, a bad mixture or alcohol poisoning. So I think the Singapore government have done a good job imposing drug traffickers.

I think they impose heavy drug penalties as they do not want Singapore to become a dangerous country for people to live in as drug can make you go high or go crazy. Taking drugs may also affect the lives of people around you and may put them in danger. Taking drugs will affect the person's health who is taking the drug.

In my opinion, i think that the Singapore Goverment imposes a serious penalty on drugs because, drugs can be really harmful to one's life, as it affects our daily life
For example, I am a drug addict.I take drugs almost everyday,as I am a addict. The cost of the drug are very expensive,so day by day, I will go poorer. Then comes the day when I have no money to buy those drugs, so i will risk myself to get those drugs by doing theft or robbing, which leads to stealing your parents money.
These example are very common to drug abusers who are broke. Not only that,it will affect your jobs, as you are high on drugs, you can't go to work, so when you take drugs, you are actually risking your life, and tearing your family apart, so in order to not let more people suffer, the goverment imposes a serious penalty, to drug abusers, but still, never risk your life for drugs!!!!

Drugs are harmful and highly addictive.Drugs traffickers exploit this point to make huge profits by charging drug abusers a high price.
Often than not have enough money to purchase drugs. The more addicted they are,the nore intense their needs for drugs become and the more likely they will resort to committing crimes to fulfil these needs. They might steal money from their family, they might rob others or do other bad deeds to get the money.
Drugs abusers also tend to lose forces which affect their ability to work which could affect singapore economy in a bad way.
This is going to affect the peace and secruity of singapore.
Therefore,I hope that people will stop trafficking drugs.

To purchase these drugs also needs a lot of money. A person who is addictive to these drugs will do anything to be able to buy them, including threaten and force their family members for money. This is the only effort government can do to protect its people. I hope that no one would ever try to use drugs anymore.

I think that the government fines drug traffickers heavily because if they do not get caught and the drugs are sold to other people, plenty of others' lifes are going to be ruined just by one tiny little pill.

Drugs, can make you feel 'high' or rather extreme sensation and they can do things unbelieveable. They will start waling weirdly and past incidents show that drug consummers usally walk onto the road and once a car heads towards him, his life is gone.

Thus, the Singapore government punishes drug traffickers by death, and can lead to ten years in jail and a $20000 fine. Just because of drugs, a person's life can just be ruined like this.

I feel that drug traffickers should learn from their mistakes. I also agree with the governement's punishment on drug trafficking. Death sentence, jail sentence as well as heavy fines are great punishments for drug traffickers as drug traffickers are indirectly "murders".

Drug dealers/traffickers are being hanged for a death penalty because if they are only sentenced for only 30 years in jail and when they are released from jail, they might not change their character and still repeat the same thing. We should ban drugs in Singapore because taking drugs is very harmful. Drugs affect your body in negative ways. Any type of drug that makes you feel "good" is actually killing your brain cells which tell you that you are feeling good, while the drug slowly kills your body cells. People are addicted to drugs because they mimic or stimulate the production of brain chemicals that cause feelings of pleasure. Therefore, the Singapore government should ban drugs and impose harsh penalty on drug dealers/traffickers.

Drugs such as herome and methamphetamine are very damaging to health. They can eventually lead us to death.Once a person starts taking drugs,he will become addicted very easily. However, a drug addict cannot work properly anymore as his body system is damaged by the drugs. As such, he will lose his job. However, due to his urge for the drug,he might resort to stealing and commiting other offencesin order to get sufficient money to fulfill his desire for drugs. In this way, not only is the drug addict suffering, his whole family will be affected too. Realising the damaging affects of drug abuse, the singapore government impose harsh penalty on drug traffickers or dealers. Drug use is a growing problem among the teens and even younger children. We should not use drugs, whether it is heroine, cocaine or any other types of drugs. Drugs have many negative effects on one's health. Firstly, inhaling drugs marijuana is dangerous, as it has 5 times as much tar as tabacco. Also injecting drugs with needles can be fatal if the needles were once used by other addicts, and fatal diseases like AIDs can spread. Secondly, the addict will not only lose family members, friends, they will also lose their jobs! Without jobs, where do they get their money to buy the drugs? Hence, they will start stealing money from family members to buy drugs or even do many harmful things to get drugs. Lastly, drugs are illegal which you will spend years in prison for selling or using drugs. Selling drugs illegally can also lead to death, so we should not use dugs!

If harsh penalty is not imposed on drug traffickers or dealers, there will be more and more people taking drugs.Ultimately, many more people will suffer and eventually, the whole Singapore society may collapse.

Singapore imposes harsh penalties on drug traffikers so as to scare the youth, so as to not let them follow in the steps of drug traffikers, but until when? What if we could stop drugs from being distributed? Posters, commercials, news, anything related to publicity can be used to let the youth know more about the consequences of drugs. Penalties like fines and summons can be implemented to stop drugs from being distributed.

People under the influenced by drugs will want more, and may even kill to get hold of drugs. People may be harmed, emotionally hurt, and will cause much commotion in the community, family, even the country!

Drugs can also harm your body.
Nausea, giddiness, brain damage, overdosage, hallucination, aches, urination problems, difficult breathing, cancer and even death.

Yes, it makes us very "high" when we are stressed, but look at the many consequences! Dont do drugs :]

in Southeast Asia, especially in Singapore, the penelty for drug traffiking is very harsh. I think it is partly because drugs are harmful to our body. But, I have a solution: In Singapore, in any event, it probably has to do with the strong government efficiency and effectiveness and weaknesses of any internal draconian crucial justice measures. And maybe it is to stop people from selling drugs in Singapore. Many people think that the Government should abolish this rule but I think it depends on what kind of drug and who they sell it to; like medicine drugs being sold to customers! But anyway, we have no say.

The government imposes such harsh penalty on drug traffickers as they do not want Singaporeans to consume drugs. Drugs harm our body by different ways. Such as: decrease alertness, concentration, and energy. Drugs use up most of our personal savings as they are priced at a very high price. They not only want to enhance our self-awareness of drug abusing, drug trafficking and exporting, but also want to prevent an increasing population of Singaporeans becoming drug consumers & drug traffickers.

I think the government imposes such harsh penalties as drugs trafficers and dealers ruin people's lifes. Each customer that takes drugs from them for the first time will get addicted and they will crave for more. And since those narcotics are expensive, they would usually have to withdraw money from their bank account and when that source of cash dries up, they turn to family members who would not lend them a single cent. After that, they then resort to stealing. And family members would be greif-stricken by them and most likely the family would start to argue.
Moreover, drugs have side effects and these include:dizziness, vomitting, hallucinations and more. And those side effects could cause death, which is something like indirect homicide.
And if, family members stop them from eating drugs, they would suffer from tortous withdrawal symtoms. While the drug dealers and drug trafficers are happily counting teir money.
So please do not ever take drugs even if you think you can control your addiction.

I think the government impose such harsh penalty on drug traffickers/dealers as they have commited a very serious crime and the government wants to make sure that they dont do it again. If i were the government i would have also imposed very harsh penalty on drug dealers/traffickers as i want them to remember not to commit the same crime again and so that they will not forget how much they suffered for dealing with drugs. Drug traffickers deserve to be thought an important lesson as drugs are very harmful to the body and sometimes may result to death and by selling drugs to people, they influence people and make people addicted to drugs too.People take drugs to feel good and happy but after that they may feel very depressed and will crave for more and as they take more and more drugs they will find themselves addicted to it. Drugs are very expensive and when people are addicted to drugs run out of money, they may come up with crazy ideas like stealing. They may even steal money from their own family members to satisfy their craving for drugs. As you can see, these drug traffickers really need to wake up and think hard about what these drugs are doing to their body and realize what a big mistake they have made. So thats why the government has to impose such harsh penalty.

Drug traffickers is against the law. However, there are still people who do that. People who take drugs are addicted to them. Once they are addicted, they would crave for more drugs. Those bad people who give them drugs want to earn more money, so they want those drug addicts to resort to stealing and robbery. The drugs are usually very expensive. Drugs come in many different forms, eg.in pills form or the injection type. Drugs dealers traffic drugs by sometimes secretely hide the drugs in frozen fishes or goods. Bad people will try to convince the innocence, and they will get influenced. Kind souls must do their part to sent those drug addicts to the rehabilitation centre for further treatments. Rehabilitation is very suffering, and that is a lot of hardships. So, whenever you see someone smoking, try to convince them to quit. If they refuse, inform someone related to them if you know.

Most drugs are really harmful to your body. Singapore is supposed to be a safe and peaceful country but if there are still drug traffickers out there, people's lives would be ruined. The reason is because drugs can cause all sorts of health problems. A few examples include vommitting and diziness. And the worst is, an overdose may even cause death.

People who had never taken drugs before might think that it is easy to quit taking drugs. But once you start, it is not that easy to stop. People who start with even just a small amount of drugs would crave for more and more drugs. Many people are addicted to drugs, thus they spent tons of money buying them. Drugs are very expensive and they would cause people to use up all of their money and become broke.

I think that it is rigtht of the Singapore government to impose a harsh penalty on drugs. This would prevent drug traffickers from coming into Singapore.

Drugs destroys a person's life by making him mentally and physically unfit.Drug addicts become a liability to the society. They will do anything to purchase drugs, including crimes like robbing, stealing, cheating and acts of dishonesty.Drug addicts hence becomes a threat to others. They will cause disorder and instability to others. The Singapore Government has to prevent drugs from being smuggled and distributed in the country.Hence, anyone found trafficking drugs will pay a heavy penalty.
A person found with more than 10grams of drugs will be sentenced to death. With such a penalty, any potential drug trafficker will hesitate to handle drug traffickers, the problem of drug addiction will decrease.Singapore will be a more peaceful country.
