We can prevent the flood by building more drains in Singapore. We should also build a machine that can detect whether there is flooding in certain areas, so that workers can be quickly deployed to clear the chokages in the drains and warning can also be sent to people to avoid those areas.
Workers should often check the drains in Singapore and clear any debris to prevent blockages of the drainage system. If possible, we can widen the drains and improve the whole drainage system. We should educate people not to litter in Singapore. Everybody should cooperate and make Singapore a flood-free country.

It can be prevented if Singapore have more river. It can also be prevented if Singapore river will be cleared everyday. If there is more river, the rain will go to the river. If the river everyday, the rain could flow.If not,the rain will flow through but it will flow through slowly.Under the river may have died rats, leaves, food wrappers and more other things. If the river is clean and it has more river,Singapore will not have flood. If Singapore does not have more river and the river is dirty,Singapore will continue having flood.

It can be prevented by the heavy rain and the blockage of the drain.Singapore have been raining heavily now a days and the drains was blocked by mud so the rain did not go in to the drain, that must be the cause of the flood. We can actually first put out the mud in the drain every morning before it rains becauase if we do not put out the mud from the drain in Singapore,Singapore will flood in several areas.I hope the workers in Singapore will take a part to do this for themselves and the fellow Singaporeans!

In order to prevent such floods from happening again,we can set up drain that never get choked,we can also construct a series of underground water retention ponds around Orchard Road.the water stored inside the water retention ponds can be released into the sea after the storm sudsides.frequent cleaning of debris can also help the rainwater to flow faster.
I think we Singaporean people should post posters about the flood at every notice board, so that people will know about the flood, and do not throw litter into the drain, and it will not get stuck. Another way is that we should ask workers to use their tools to dig up the mud that is stuck in the drain, anduse them for other uses. Singapore should keep their places clean, by not throwing litter, and if they throw litter, the shoppers had to scramble out of the waters and driver's car, and other drive's car engine died out when they tried to drive on the submered road, and the people will be angry.

Floods take place usually in very dry land. They are caused by heavy rains which pours water into rivers and other waterways.Flood is a form of natural diaster which is unable to carry all the water and due to this, watr level rises and breaks the banks, causing the surrounding land to be flooded. There are many ways to prevent floods.the two best ways of preventing flood would be creating flood plains and winding streams as these would prevent the gathering of water by providing a way for drainage of water. However, there are other ways of preventing floods such as we can build man-made dams as this would increase storage of water and lastly plant more trees to prevent water from moving.
we could help prevent it by building more drains because the flood may be caused by the drain. many drains have been stuck during the rain.the drain could not take in as much water as posible because the rain is very heavy and the drain is very small. Many shopping centres have been flooded too.the road that first have the flood is ochard road. many shops have been damaged during the flood and needed to be repaired. there was a traffic jam during the flood and some cars might have broke down. most likely, to prevent the flood from coming we can buid bigger drains so that if it is a heavy downpour, the water could go though easily.

we can make more drains and canels that lead to the rivers and seas.we canstop floods that way.in the future if there are more floods lets stop trowing water away and save water.there may be floods anywhere and anytime.we will also stop littering in the drains.we lso read that orchad road there was a flood.in the future,i will build a vacum that sucks up more water that causes floods.that way we will stop floods!

The recent flood was actually caused by the heavy downpour of rain and the build-up of bebis stuck in the canal. some places like Orchard Road, Thomson Road and Bukit Timah were affected. The roads were impassable to traffic and some shops in Orchard Road were completly underwater. According to the Public Utilities Board (PUB), will conduct more frequent checks on canals and install grates to prevent more flash flood in Orchard Road. We can do our part by not littering, keeping public places clean and prevent litter from chocking our drains.
Singapoe has encountered extremely heavy downpour on 16th June 2010.The rain was so heavy thatit flooded the entire stretch of Orchard Road. Many cars driving into Orchard Road were affected because they could not drive into it so they have to stay on a dryer ground. Many people were drenched and the water raised until the ankle length, but somewere even worst like the knee or yhe waist length. The rain water has affected some shops as it has ruined the goods. So it was a disaster on that day.

We can stop this from happenning by making more water reserviour. This way,we can save water and use it when there is no rain and all the plants had dehidrated, the water thatwehave saved will be very useful.we can also ask inventors to invent something that can absorb the flood water quickly so that the plants below the water will not drownand when it does not rain, the thing that the inventor had invented will spray the water that it had collected during the flood, and spray the water around so that the grasses and the other plants will not dehidrate and shrivel up.that way Singapore will always begreen!
I think that the flood can be prevented by having more cannals and even deeper cannals.this will help as the cannals can collect much more water than before.they also can have more water and by not wasting the water they can make them to new water in that way we are also saving the Earth.hopefully,Singapore will find more ways to prevent floods in the future.sometimes you cannot prevent these floods it is just natrural.i wish that this incident will never happen again.i think that this is one of the most worst floods in singapore.it will be good if these problems are solved.

you can make drains deeper so more rain water can be flowninto the drain. make the place where the water flow into the sea bigger.cover a metal window over the drain so that the dirt will not to blog the drain water.cover the side where the trees and the leaves usaully fall so it will not block up the drain.or build a sucking machine and suck up all the leaves and dirt and clear the drain.we must build more drains so that singapore will be flood free!

We could help to prevent floods by cleaning the drains reguarly.By cleaning the drains we can prevent floods too as some people throw litter in the drai it may get stuck and cause a flood.we also can prevent floods by making the drain deeper as it the water wont overflow easily which would case floods. We can prevent water from entering buildings or shops is to buid them on a higher flooring.Where floods cant reach.WE also can prevent floods by not throwing any litter in the drains it may get stuck and cause a flood.Recently ther was a flood in orchard road that caused a disaster. It damaged many shops and the amount for the damage cost more then $500,000.so i think by doing our part we should not throw litter in drains. raphael 4g
To prevent ssch floods, we can built a few more drains, plant more trees as rainfalls stays on the leaves and may evaporate directly into the air. Leaves also break up the fall of raindrops, resulting in less impact on the soil, and less erosion. the creation of flood plains and winding streams are two of the other ways to hinder the accumulation of water by providing a route for the drainage of water. Also, the protection of wetlands helps to maintain a natural drainage system to provide a place for the excess water to gather. Such devices allows the water to evaporate before it can accumulate creating flooding condition.

I have heard about the flood at orchard road. It was quite heavy. I think I should advice Singapore to put up drawings of clean drains so that it will not clog up the water going into the drains. Luckily, I was not at orchard road that day. Alot of poeple were drenched and they were soaking wet at that time. A few shops had to close down because of the flood that it destroyed the entire shop! That flood was one of the worst in Singapore.I hope we can help prevent other floods from coming again.
Normally, floods are caused by heavy rain. The flood was in Prime Orchard Road. Many people and business were affected by the flood and it could have been worse. All shoppers had to scramble out of the waters and drivers' car engines died on the submerged road.Shopkeepers lost millions of dollars worth of merchandise.Storm drains can handle this kind of rainfall. But the down pour had blocked a storm drain called the stamford canal which ruhs under the Delfi Orchard Shopping Complex. The flood can be fixed.PUB would take preventive measures including designating Orchard Road as flood hotspot, which means it will be monitored closely during heavy rain.

There are lots of ways to prevent floods. To prevent floods, the goverment can build more drains or they can make the drains bigger. We also need to clear the rubbish in the drains because the rubbish in the drains will block the water and it willcause a big flood. We need to stop the people for throwing things in the drain or it will cause bigger flood. This are the few ways how we can prevent floods for coming. Many people say that when it started raining heavily, the first place to flood is the Orchard Road as it is a hot spot. Some people were lucky as they were not drowned in the flood but some are not so lucky.A comic moment during flooding occured when people thought they saw a body floating in the water.Acctually,it was a mannequin.some people were trapped because of the flood. The people inside the shop were trapped because of the flood. The people inside the shop could not come out as they were stuck. Two downpours happened one after another. How I wish there were no flood in singapore!
There is a flood in Singapore's Ochard road.We shouldn't throw the rubbish or other useless things to the drain ,water can't go and causes flood. The national water agency should cheack and cleaned the drain under the Pelfi Orcard shopping centre every two months. You can run to a higher place or go to a futher place when it haven't rise too high.Do not go to a shopping centre that is near the flood so every may not be hurt by the flood. We can also plants more trees so that the flood will not be too strong and more people can be saved by the trees and try not to cut a lot trees to houses or others.
WE can stop littering into the rain and clear the rubbish inside it if there are too much rubbish inside the drain and it rains heavily, the water would not be able to go inside the drainand it willcause flood.singaporeans should take care of the country and stop throwing or littering .we should always throw them into the recycling bin .if this carries on shoppers had to scrambleout of the water and their things will be damaged.people may be trapped or also could be injured.we should not litter so there would be no more flood .
Last week, there was a flood at ochard road.that inccident was caused by a heavy rain.I think we can prevent floods by making a few more holes by the side of the road.If weput more small holesthere will be no flood inccidents in singapore. If drilling more holesdid not work,we sholuld just call the CivilDefence Force. The singapor Defence Force could use a pipe to suck out all the water out. There was also some cars which were broke down because the water rises into the engine of the car. There was also some people trapped in the buildings.the cars and buses should be reparied by now Another possibility of flood is there was a heavy down pour. The inccident was also reported on the nens. The workers are very tired as shown in the news.I think the workers should be compilmented by the Civil Defence Force company

Such floods happen in orchard road because people littered the place everywhere. However,it is the best if we did not litter everywhere to have such floods.Likewise,it will also have such floods if the drains are blocked by the leaves.Didn't people who littered should not litter?Or didn't people who littered should make the environment clean and green by not littering? We know how the problem be fixed.First,we remove the leaves that blocked the drain, then the floods would flow to the drain.Chung Teik Lim,4 grace
Such floods can be prevented if drains is cleared.Dry leaf have to be removed or drains will be stuck and water will not be able to get through and floods will be created badly. We can add more drains, with small gaps.So that the leaf will drop on the drain. It will be easier for cleaners to sweep the leaves off the drains and into the rubbish bin.If smaLL gap drains is put on streets and roads, I think floods will not happen frequently. We will be happy if our country do not have floods.Because our citizens will be safe and there will be no harm to our citizens.

Let see,Orchard Road was flooded on 16 june 2010.IT happened when two downpours were raining on a single day.we can prevent it by stopping people from littering, sweep away dead leaves, clean or sweep away the drain to make it clean and ensure the canal hasno blockage. In LRD newspaper,PUB boss Khoo Teng Chye said:"We were frankly,a little bit caught offguard by what has happened in Stamford Canal."he said puB would take preventive measures, including designating Orchard Road as a flood hot spot, which means it will be monitored closely during heavy rain.I guess they were worried too.

Such flood could be prevented if we stop littering. When we litter, the litter will block the pipes and that will affect the water flowing. If the pipes is block and the water cannot flow through, possible one is that the land will be very dry.Possible two is that the pipe will burst and water will keep flowing. If the water keeps on flowing, the water will over flow the drain and create a flood. Another thing that will create a flood is rain.
Shoppers in Orchard Road were shocked about the floods these days.A newly opened bakery could not sell their breads as the flood water went into their shop and their bread became wet and soggy, they lost a lot of money because of the flood and also had to close their shops. The goverment asked some workers to put the debrise around the some parts of the Stamford Canal.Orchard Road is a flood hot spot, many shops had the flood water in their shops too!Busnisses were badly affected because of the flood.Orchard Road would be monitered very closly during the rain storms in case there would be floods again. But water built outside, it put so much pressure on the grilles that employees inside their shops could no longer open them-and they were stuck.
Singapore does not have the space to build large monsoon drains to collect excess rainwater during thunderstorms, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said.Besides, such drains would incur high infrastructural costs and yet be underutilised most of the time, Minister Lee Hsien Loong added.
It will continue to implement new drainage works, and improve designs to deal with more intense storms, but it is not possible to expect Singapore to be completely free of floods, Minister Lee Hsien Loong said. The realistic objective is to prevent widespread and prolonged flooding, and limit the risk to lives and damage to properties, and to have contingency plans,he said.
Mr Lee was speaking yesterday after launching new facilities at Lower Seletar Reservoir, which had been built over two years, at a cost of $10 million! They include a 170m-long bridge that extends out from the banks of the reservoir. Singapore must learn from the recent flooding episodes and upgrade its infrastructure and systems, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
On June 16, a major flood submerged central parts of Singapore, including Orchard Road, Bukit Timah Road and Little India, under knee-high water. This was followed last Friday by a flood that struck Bukit Timah Road, Balestier Road and Thomson Road, and felled 25 trees. The heavy rain caused flooding at the Orchard Road and the Scotts Road intersection for about an hour making it impassable to traffic.
The worst-hit area was the Orchard Road and Scotts Road intersection, with large stretches from Paterson Road - where Ion Orchard and Wheelock Towers are - to Ngee Ann City submerged in nearly half a metre of flood waters.
A number of cars stalled in the rising floodwaters, stranding motorists. Many passengers were also reported to be stuck in buses in areas where traffic was impassable. Traffic lights were out at some inter-sections.

We have expirience the heavy rain and it was raining cats and dogs. The heavy rain had poured the heaviest in Orchar Road. The heavy rainpoured so heavily that it hit Liat Towers. It also hit the Wendy's Burger Restraunt which had just open 3 days ago(WED 16 JUN).We can prevent heavy floods by saving the enviroment. We should stop global warming as there's a big hole in the ozone layer. The UV rays will enter the Earth. It also cause fog. When the fog enters the,it will form clouds and then it rains. If we litter, the water will rise up and cause floods to come.So let's stop littering as you do not want floods in Singapore again.
If there's a flood always stay on high ground. If there's more drains it will be very good because if there's only a few drains the water will no flow away.Usually flood is not so common. It will have flood only if the drains are stuck or there's no drain at all. If there's really a flood dont be so curious to find out whats in the water by standing on the edge of the place with will fall.If we fall in the flood thats dirty.
i think that we can help to prevent flood by clearing the drains oftenly, stop littering and more.we can also prevent flood by stopping global warming.
We should create more bigger drains and canals to drain away all the flood waters we can also use the flood waters for drinking waters and other uses like washing our cloths or watering our plants. We could also use the flood waters to make energy. The shop keepers should make their shop waterproof and does'nt allow any water to leak into their store so that the stuff inside wil not get wet.
flood can be prevented by not littering.i think we should install more canals and drains.it may be the cause of climate change or dried leaves piling up in the drains to prevent water from going in.
We should all do our part to try to prevent all kind of flood. We should try to build more drains, canal and barrages. (I think should not watse water if not it will go to the cana and along the way if it is hot, water will evaporate and cause heavy downpours.) I think the cause for the in Orchard Road is the sentence mentioned above.

They can remove the litter that block the storm drains. They can also make more storm drains. I think that litter we throw into the drain blocked the drain. The drain's hole should be made bigger so it wont easily get blocked. We should make the storm drains and rivers bigger so it can hold more water and prevent floods . We should also make new drains that divert water to places that have less water .I've not experienced a flood before but i think that everyone should stay at home during heavy rain.

Last week, the third week of the June holidays, my father and I were on our way to MYMCA Orchard Road for my NASSA training. My father was my coach so it is very like killing two birds with one stone. But on our way there, we got caught in a flood. Everybody move very slowly and the car in front of us, hsd black smoke coming out of it. It maybe the water went into the car engine. It was very hard to drive through the flood. I think the goverment should ask public cleaners to clean the drains as when people throw rubbish in there, it will stop the water from moving. It should be clean every week.

Floods can be preventd by not littering. Litter and dead leaves may have blocked a storm drain named Stamford Canal. The heavy rain may be due to climate change. The flood cause many things to happen such as wasing away money and make people stuck at a place. We should not litter or else we may cause another flood.

I think some people were very unlucky as some were caught in traffic and people walking on the pavements were stuck. We should not litter so the drains will not be clogged and the water can flow. If we do this, there will be less floods in the future. We can also protect our mother earth, so in the future the will not be so many heavy downpours.

The litter in the canal blocked the water from flowing, causing the flood. This has caused a lot of trouble for people as they will be late for work, slows down the road and buisnesses are affected as their furniture are wet and has to close down temporarily. If people stop littering into the canal, the flood may not have happened. Another reason is because of the heavy rain. The canal cannot handle a lot of water. I think building bigger canals can solve this problem.
The flood in Orchard Road has affected many people. to prevent anymore floods, we should stop littering. There has been a lot of heavy rains recently. It may be because of climate change. There is climate change because people keep littering along the road, in the sea and many more places. We must prevent more floods to prevent people from getting injured or drowned in the flood. We must stop littering and save the Earth to stop and prevent the floods.

I think that some people were unlucky as they were late for work and they lost some of their things that they just bought from the shops nearby.Climate change must have been the cause of the heavy down fall that caused the flood.I think that we can prevent floods by not littering as if we litter, the litter would clog up the canals and if the canals are cloged up,the water cant flow,it will eventually over flow and start to flood.I hope that other people will learn from this lesson and not litter again anymore.

Flood are dangerous and killer. We can prevent them by not littering the first thing because it is not only punishable by law but if all of them ends up in the drains and cannels it will clog up them.
And second thing the cleaner cleaning our roads and passageways often sweep them all down into the storm drain which protect our city from floods will also get cloged up.Worse still if the litter and dead leaves all float away into the sea or a nearby river, it will affet the marinlife.
So whoever is reading this, please think before you you do anytthingh
If flood happen often,i think that they should hire more workers to remove dry leaves in drain and post more sign on not littering as it may block the drain water from flowing. It also decreases people shopping and damage properties of shopkeepers.I think people who saw other people litter willtell them to throw them into dustbin.
A flood happens when there is very heavy rain. The water will pick up litter as it goes to the drain. The litter will get stopped as the water enters the drain. As more and more litter gets stopped at the drain, the drain will get clogged not allowing water to pass. Floods happen all over the world, but the most recent one was Orchard Rd,Singapore.
I think the goverment can help by asking staff to check drains more often. Even we play a part in preventing floods by not littering.
If we continue to litter, there will be more garbage for flowing water to collect and there for creating worse floods.
If people is always littering on the street, then this could have caused the flood to happen.Littering is a very precious thing to Singapore.Sometimes there might be heavy rains or that the leaves have turned very mushy.A way to prevent floods is people in Singapore could help to clean the streets and Singapore can be a clean and green!
Floods could be prevented if people stop littering. When you throw rubbish in the drains it might choked a canal and I am sure you do not want that right? Imagine yourself going home and when you reach home and you find your home in a mess with knee-level brownish water and you see your house turned upside-down , chairs and tables floating and bits of paper floating around. Did I mention your television and computer . So this is why you should stop littering . And do not blame it on dead leaves. The PUB checks the canals.
I think is the litter and leaves on the floor which blocked the cannels. I also think it is because of the continuos heavy rains. I think the cleaners or us should just pick up litter or sweep the dry leaves. I also think they should built more cannels so that water can get through it. It also help just in case other cannels were blocked the cannel can help drain up the water. I also think that we should prevent oil spill or do not throw letter concrete into drains.so, the main point I think is because of the waste and the not helpful people we are now. So my advise to stop flooding is to not litter! Luckily, during the flood, nobody had been drowned. So, thats why we have to stop the flooding or we might die!

I think floods can be prevented if people stop littering in the canal,as this causes them to get clogged up,so the rainwater has less space to flow into these canals, therefore, causing floods. So if we stop littering in the canals, the water can flow into the canals safely, reducing the chances of a flood.
It is uncommon for floods to occur in Singapore thanks to our drainage system, wheras, floods often occur in other countries. How ever, due to heavy rains, we aet floods onece in a while. When we litter in to drains, the drains clog up, causing floods.
I think the flood is due to the heavy rain and the litter clogging up the drains. To prevent this to happen again, the goverment should build more cannels and make them deeper. It is not only the drains, Singaporens should make it a habit of throw their litter in the near-by bins. It not only give more work to the cleaners, it clogs up the drains. And when there is a heavy rain, the water will not be able to flow from the drains to the cannel, then to the river.
People loose a lot of things in a flood, including things worth lot of money. They even had to close down a burger shop.Partly it is only our fault, becuase of litter. The litter we throw on the floor, gets washed into the drain by rain, which clogs up the drains, preventing water from flowing to the canals. The litter blocks the drains from flowing, and the water will overflow the drains and soon the road. How to prevent this?Simple.do not litter.its as easy as abc.but, people take things for granted. They never think that even a small piece of candy wrapper can cause a flood. they blame the rain but its only their fault.

Floods can be prevented by not throwing litters and pick up litter as ded leaves. That is what wecan do and goverments can build more deeper and bigger drains. They can also build high buildings for us to stay on Oter than throwing we also can recycle litters such as drink cans.We can put flowers and it is alresdy a flower pot.Floods are danerous but we all can try our best to prevent them!!

Flood usually occured when there were numbers of heavy downpours. Island like Singapore is well designed in storm drains and canals to handle this kind of rainfall. However, prime along Orchard Road to Scotts Road was hit by a huge flood. Normally, the stormdrains can handle this kind of rainfall but it could be cause by the blockage of litter or leaves in the drain.Usually,Pub,the national under agencywould have to check the drains and make sure that they are clear to preventthe flood. Many people and businesses were affected by the flood and it could have been even worse if someone had lost their life in the flood. Actually, these floodscan be prevented if everyone of us do our parts by picking up litter when we see them on the roadside and also more importantly, do not litter.

I think the cause of the floods were drains and canals that were clogged up by litter and dead leaves. Some irresponsible people ahave thown their litter into drains and canals. I think the best way to prevent this is to influence our people to have good habits. The other way is to improve our drainage system to the top.Otherwise, our country could be history!

The flood in Ochard Road was a massive one.Such floods could be prevented if we save electricity and other things, if we do not save these appliances, climate change will cause heavy rain.Another cause of the flood is littering.when we litter, and heavy rain comes,it will sweep it in the draim, and when thers is too ,many litter,it chokes the drain and therefore the water can't pass and ends up as a flood. The Goverment can also build more drains and hire more workers to sweep the floors and clean the drain. The citizens of Singapore can help by not throwing litter.

We can prevent floods by not littering. We should throw our rubbish into the bin. Because if we litter, the litter that we throw may clog up the canlas and there will be a flood. Also, nowadays the rain has been really heavy and that may be because of climate change. The reason there is climate change is because people are not saving our earth. We can save our earth by using cloth bags instead of plastic bags when we go shopping. We can also switch on the fan and open the windows instead of switching on the air-conditioner when we are hot. Everyone should save our earth and prevent floods as floods are really scary. As we may die if we drown in a flood. We are lucky that Singapore does not have any severe floods yet. If we continue to ignore the problem, more floods will happen in Singapore and maybe even worse ones. I hope everyone will put in effort to prevent floods and save our earth.
A flash flood is when a sudden heavy downpour causes flooding. The last major flood that occured in Singapore was in 1984 and the current one was on 16 June 2010.Thats a 16 year lapse! The flood happened in Orchard Road And Scotts Road Intersection, with large strethches from Paterson Road- where Ion Orchard and Whelock Towers are- to Ngee Ann City submerged in nearly half a metre of flood waters. The basement of Liat Towers was flooded , affecting shops , which reported goods destroyed by flood waters. A number of cars stalled in rising floodwaters, stranding motorists. Many passengers were also reported to be stuckin buses in areas where traffic was impassable. Trafficlights were out at some inter-sections. The cause of the flood is still being investigated but I think that there can be many reasons. One of them is littering. Many people will throw their rubbish into drains thus clogging them. The other one is the materials left over from construction to bulid ION etc. Latly, I think that they need to improve the drainage system. I learnt that we must take care of our environment.
I have never been in a flood before exept one that had a water level until my ankle.I don't think any of my family members experience a flood either. My shool shoes and socks got wet. Many things could have caused the flood. Some of my friend's suggestions were dried leaves and littering. No wonder Singapore's law of no littering is so strict.Singapore dosen't get floods that often, but, if there's a heavy rain, in some parts of Singapore, there's a medium sized flood.

I never experience a flood before but my mum and dad experience the 1984 flood in Singapore. They said that it was waist-leveled. Many things might have caused the flood. I think one of it is the heavy rain but I believe that it is caused by the people of Singapore. Many people in Singapore keep littering everywhere. When it is raining, the water from the rain will sweep the litters to the canal. The litter is blocking the water from the canal. A way to prevent from having a flood is to not litter.
Shoppers in the prime orchard road area around scotts road had to wade to safety through swirling brown water-the colour of milk tea, when heavy rain caused a huge flood.
Hmmm, maybe we could stop the flood. Oh, yes!Litter. When litter is thrown,it would stuck up the drains. When there is downpours, the rain can't flow into the drain then it would accumulate. Then a flood would already be created.

Firstly, the storm drains were uncleared for three months. The cleaners should clear the drains one week once instead of three months once.Secondly, they did not monitored Orchard Road closely during the downpour. They need to moniter the drain more closely at Orchard Road.
Educate the public the important of keeping the envioroment clean.
We should not be littering as it would caused drain blockage when it rains cats and dogs. Also, the drain must be cleaned once a week regardless it rains or not. All of us must be blamed if there is any flood occured and not only the PUB or Ministry of Environment. Another way is the drain can be dugged deeper and wider if possible so that it allows more water to flow smoothly.
Floods can be prevented by diging up more drains and clear all dirt in the drains. Singaporean must learn not to litter because if you litter, the drains will get clog and the water won't be able to move down the drain. And if it is cloged, the water level will continue to rise. And if it rise it will be a flood. Every one must do their part so that shop keepers wll not lose their merchandise and they also won't need to carry costumers to safty and Singapore will be a better place for us.
We can prevent flood by drilling more drains or we can do a easier way by caring for singapore and doing your part to keep singapore clean and green. And if you do that the drains will not get choked or cloged so that if a flood should come we dont have to worry because you did your part to keep the drains clean and employees will not get stuck in their own shop. So remember keep owr contry clean and green
It can be prevented by the heavy rain and the blockage of the drain.Singapore have been raining heavily now a days and the drains was blocked by mud so the rain did not go in to the drain, that must be the cause of the flood. We can actually first put out the mud in the drain every morning before it rains becauase if we do not put out the mud from the drain in Singapore,Singapore will flood in several areas.I hope the workers in Singapore will take a part to do this for themselves and the fellow Singaporeans
Flood can be prevent by building more drains because more water can go in. Flood also can be prevent by not cutting down more trees. We can also prevent flood by not littering because in the public places we must put them properly in the bins site. If there is a flood and the bins are not properly place, the bins will fall and the rubbish will all come out. And the water will become very dirty
flood can be prevented by building bigger drains so that more water can go inside so that there will be less floods in singapore and they should also clean the drains maybe at least 2 times a month so that the water can flow very well.they should also keep drains clean so that if it is flooding if there is glass no one will get hurt.If i was in the middle of the flood I would try to save myself but i would not want to swim in it because my face would be the colour of milk tea.
People should not litter the canal. If they litter, the canal will be blocked.Of course, the flood will come again. And they should make the "canal hole" bigger so that when people litter,it will not cause a blockage for the canal. We should learn not to litter so much so that it will not cause a blockage for the canal.
To prevent floods, don't litter when it's raining heavily because if you throw litter, when it really flooded with water, there will be dirt in the water and leaves will fall into the water and sometimes it will become brown water, the colour of milk tea and if there is shop in the flooded place,In shops employees may be trapped. If the water is very high, cars will be covered and people can't drive anymore and sometimes if people can't swim they may struggle in the water. It may cause people to die too.Floods are dangerous!
There was a huge flood in Orchard road. Thecflood was all over the place and even in the shops! The flood was caused by a very heavy rain. Many people got caught in the flood and had to find safety. I hope no one got injured in the flood. The flood started in the june holidays. We can prevent the flood by draining the flood or cleaning the drains. I hope there will be no more floods again. I also hope the flood is over now If we are stuck in a flood, we must find safety immediately. We must be very careful because a flood can happen any time. I hope no one will be caught in a flood. I also hpoe the shops will be repaired
i agree to yan yu's anwers because if we dont make bigger or more drains and canal the flood will become even higher and worst people will maybe drown.More drains and canal will help people to protect their stall from the flood. The canls and drains should be also very deep enough for the flood to flow away faster.if the stall is not waterproof the gas or the fire is on it may cause an explodsion.
Flood can be prevented by building more drains so that it will not flood again. By preventing having such big floods,we have to stop littering so it won't block the drain and there will be no floods. If we keep littering, there will be even bigger flood. Especially when soe drunk people have bad mood, they will break the glass bottles and when floods come, people might walk into the flood, they might get deep cut.
Flood mostly caust by heavy rain.shoppers in the prime Orchard Road area around Scott Road had been flooded heavily.Area around Scott Road had to wade throu the swirly brown water. We can prevent floods by builtding gaint canals like the Stamford Canals. We can prevent the chances of getting floods by stoppong global warming and planting more plants as it could absorb the water from the flood. We also can prevent such flood by buitding more brains and walls.
Build more canel and pipe to prevented. The shop they should build at the higer floor. They should not throw litter in the litter and maybe the soil also block the drain and pipe and they should build some shelter. If got a flood they should build some room if the flood ask the customer tohide in the room.
float can be prevented by putting more drain cause putting more drain andwater can pass through easily .if you oniy have one drain .what if the drain is being blot and water cannot pass though that is why we have float .putting more can prevent this to happen and so stall won't be distroy and won't lose a lot of money up to $500.000.A lot of stalls that thing missing after the flood had clear.so i wish they can make more drain.
.
We can prevent the canal to be flooded by not littering into it.The flood may be cause again because if we litter the canal, the water may push the rubbish and the rubbish will block the hole and the water will be block too.So when it rains, the rain will drip into the canal and more water will be block then there will be flood again. So wemust not litter to prevent flood.
Many people in orchard road got drench by the flood.this flood is about our waist level.workers should try to build more drains inorder to prevent this to happen.we can also prevent flood by not littering because in the public places,we must put them properly in the bins.we have flood because many dirty things were being blockand water cannot pass through :(
building more drains can prevent thisto happen and so stall won't be distroy and stall will not lose alot of money
I really like teik lim's comment. He is trying to tell us that what causes the flood is because people litter to much. He is also trying to tell us not to litter. I think his comment is really good. His opinion is trying to tell us not to litter.
In order to prevent such floods from happening again,we must make our drains higher.foolds can do major problems to Singapore.it has been heavily a few days ago.If we litter the drains will get choked.Singaporeans must stop littering. The drains must be very clean.
I agree with Sean's comment the drains in Singapore are still to little we need to make the flood water flow away.
I think Nigel's comment is a very good comment. He is trying tell us how to prevent floods. I think he is showing us very good ways to prevent floods. I think he has written a very god comment.
Flood can be prevented if we do not litter because it will cause drain blockage.Singapore has been raining heavily. The drain should be clean everyday.Educate the public the important of keeping the envioroment clean.
Singapore has encountered extremely heavy downpour on 16th june 2010.The rain was so heavy that it flooded the entire stretch of orchard road .Many people were drenched and the water raised until the ankle length. To prevent such flood,we can built a few more drains, plant more trees as rainfalls stays on the leaves and may evaporate directly into the air.
Yes I agree with Zhenwen(4grace)not to throw litter in drain and do not post posters and if have flood the drain will be stuck. And it is hard to dig out the litter. Lim Zi Jin(4peace)

Russle has a very creative comment. His way to prevent floods is to set up drains that never choke. his other ways to prevent such floods is to set up under ground water contros. His ways to prevent floods are very creative.
I think Raina's comment is very nice and informative and trying to tell us that the water had rised very high until our waist level and do not litter.
We can prevent flood by making the drains bigger and build more rivers to prevent flood. We d also build helicopter pads on top of building just in case.
I really like Yan Yus's comment. his ways to prevent floods are to make bigger drains and canals. His other way is to make shopkeepers shops water proof. He has written avery good comment.
i agree with jenelle beacuse if you build more drains more water will go inside the drains and there will be less floods.
sean as written a very good comment. His ways to prevent floods are to make bigger drains and canals. His way to escape from floods are to move to higher grounds. He has written a very creative comment.
Hi students,
I'm impressed with your comments on ways which we can prevent future floods in Singapore.
While most of you commented that one of the best way to prevent such natural disaster is to build canals, we may also need to consider Singapore's land scarcity. It may be unsuitable to build many canals, as we need these areas to build buildings for other purposes, such as housing, offices.
Perhaps, we can propose a more integrated architecture, which can fully maximise our limited land with the needs of our nation. A good example is the existing Marina Barrage. It is a good place for family get-togethers and it serves as a reservoir as well.
Lastly, I agree with you all that we can do our little part by reducing the amount of litter we dispose into canals.
A small act goes a long way!
i agree with jenelle because if we keep littering the drains will be choke and the flood will rose even faster then we think it will rise.So to prevent this flood from rising so fast we must build more canals and drains to prevent it.
I do agree with michelle.
i think what zahier say is right most of the floods are because of rain.

yes, i do agree with haley
I agree on what Nashita. Flood is caused by drains and river.
what ho sze said was right, singapore seldom have any flood.
i do agree with lai sze that for flood to be prevented singapore needs more rivers
i think what raphael say is right we should clean the drains daily because there are a lot of litter at the drain and it will cause a flood.

Mabel say that Orchard road is a hot spot and it will be the first place to have a flood. But if it's a hot spot,i don't understand why will there be a flood?
