Singapore Bans Chewing Gum LRD pg 15

Should Singapore lift the ban on chewing gum? Why?

Ian Tay  4 Joy

I think Singapore should not lift the ban on chewing gum because once the ban is lifted, chewing gum wrappers will soon be lying all over the ground in public places. Worse still, chewing gum will also be left sticking on walls and seats and cleaners will have a difficult time removing the chewing gum. It is also expensive to remove chewing gum stuck on surfaces.
Some irresponsible people will start to stick chewing gum on MRT doors and this will cause a delay of train services. Based on the Little Red Dot newspapers, the Singapore government banned the sale of chewing gum in the early 1980s as people were causing trouble by sticking their chewing gum on lift doors, lift buttons, mailboxes and walls. It was a nightmare for the HDB cleaners who took ages to remove the chewing gum.

Yes. Singapore should lift the ban on chewing gum. In other countries,I have tried chewing gum. It was fun to blow it! People should spit into a tissue paper and throw it in the bin.

I think Singapore should not lift the ban for chewing gum because when I went to New Zealand you had to watch where you are sitting, leaning and walking because there is chewing gum disposed everywhere. On chairs, walls, floors and even ceilings making the place dirty and ugly. Plus, once it sticks anywhere it is very hard to remove the chewing gum. Even if you can remove it is very expensive to do it. That is why I think Singapore should not lift the ban on chewing gum or the MRT trains will get jammed again and the same thing will happen to Singapore.

I think gum chewing should not be ban , because there are some people who never tried or did not stick it on anywhere but got ban. And if you bought chewing gum , can only be eaten at home. And if you bring chewing gum from other contries to Singapore , you have to keep it in any type of plastic bag until you go home. And if you are eating outside , you can not stick it on anywhere especially on elevator doors , because if you stick it on elevator doors , if won't be able to close or won't be able to open.

I do not agree to ban chewing gum because only those who did not throw their gum wrapper or their gum away still can eat gum but those who throw their wrapper or gum away should be ban from eating to do this there should be sucurity cammaras everywhere. In the bus , lifts or any other places that use to have gum on the walls or on the floor. Or you only eat at home so that you do not litter! Those who have eaten gum befor and litter them should not be eating them again because they are the one who cause this trouble!

If a family is poor and cannot afford the fees then that is it.It is so sad overhearing this from the child's parents or family

I think that Chewing Gum is a little bit dangerous as children which does not know what is chewing gum and does not know how to eat it might swallow it thinking that it is just a candy. But it is also trouble because their parents will waste their money paying the hospitality fees and medication fees.

No,singapore has already ban chewing gum a long time ago,but people still eat chewing gum so they should increase the ban of chewing gum and warn visitors not to bring chewing gum.And also make the FIND higher.

i think singapore should not lift the ban on chewing gum because it will make the place sticky and if someone step on it,the person will be very angry.so i think singapore should stop selling chewing gum.people could even eat chewing gum in the mrt or bus when there is a sign that say 'do not eat in the mrt or bus'!people just ignore those sign.they even throw the raper of the chewing gum on the floor and not on the bin. so i wish that the goverment can stop people from selling chewing gum!

Once it sticks anywhere it is very hard to remove the chewing gum. Even if you can remove it you still need to spent some of your money because you need something to remove it.

singapore should have chewing but when they do dirty tricks we must call the police before anything bad happen as the train or taxi and bus door get stick and the door broke, the govermount will spent a bomb to fix that thing.so if somebody saw somebody paly pranks with a chewing gum, please warn and tell somebody like a police to hadle it.

I think Singapore should not lift the ban on chewing gum because at the void deck of my HDB. I spotted chewing gum stuck on the wall. The chewing gum was turning black. If singapore continues to ban chewing gum singapore would be a better and cleaner place. Singapore would attract more tourist to come and visit the clean and green sigapore.[102 words]

I think Singapore should not lift the ban on chewing gum,the chewing gum can stick to things. When it sticks to things,it can be very hard to pull the chewing gum out. It can also dirty things,it can also cause vandalisum. Chewing gum can also be very dangerous,it CAN ALSO CAUSE ACCIDENTS.wE MUST NEVER SWALLOW CHEWING GUM,IF WE SWALLOW IT WE CAN BE VERY SICK AND WE MAY EVEN GO TO THE HOSPITAL. I HOPE SINGAPORE WILL STOP SELLING CHEWING GUMS,I ALSO HOPE PEOPLE WILL STOP TAKING chewing gums. I HOPE SINGAPORE WILL ban chewing gums forever.

NO because it's a crime, singapore should not have it only other countries. The chewgum is private to singapore, like some people they go to jail and some will die ,because they swallow it.Some people use to throw the chew gum rapper on the floor and some they stick the chew gum at mrt station chair, chair is for people to sit atually not to put things that is very selfish but now i'm not talking about selfish. Some people even throw the chew gum in the toliet bowl, that's why singapore should lift the ban on chewing gum.

I think they should not have chewing gum because some people think that this is their enviroment and anyhow throw the chewing gum. Some people are resposible when they eat chewing gum and throw it in the tissue then throw it in the bin.I also want to ask why are they dirting the enviroment? It is weird that they litter.

No,it is because we will not get to eat chewing gumsif it is ban.If we want to eat,we need to go to another country like Malaysia if we want to eat chewing gums.Other than eating at another country,we could eat in Singapore and it be more easier for us because we do not need to go to another country to eat.
